The French Eco-score, officially renamed Environmental Cost (Coût Environnemental), is a mandatory-methodology labeling system that assigns a single environmental impact score to apparel and textile products sold in France.
October 2026 is a critical milestone where third parties (such as NGOs, retailers, and comparison platforms) are legally authorised to calculate and publish an Environmental Cost score on behalf of a brand using conservative or worst-case default assumptions if the brand has not done so itself.
